tell us more about CPA networks and how they operate, I am curious too

Sure thing, though I apologize for not being too far ahead myself. I only ran across them late last month.

CPA: A Quick Rundown

"CPA" stands for "Cost Per Action" where an action can be anything from a click to a lead or a sale. For all the long-time Clickbank affiliates that advertise with PPC campaigns, the excellent news sits with the leads especially. The sales work in much the same way as with CB where you get paid a commission for selling whatever product. The lead offers on the other hand usually require no purchase by the visitor.
There are a few "types" of lead offers I've found.

Type 1: "email submit" offers, as I've heard them be referred to. As the name implies, these pay out just for someone submitting their email address (similar to all those "get an ipod for free" looking sites, but also used to build email lists). These usually pay out ~$1-$2.

Type 2: "Personal Databases", like dating services etc. These require the user to sign up (all the ones I've seen are free for the user) to whatever service, and the pay out is about $4-$6.

Type 3: A common lead program is a variety of insurance companies, mortgage companies, car quotes, and everything similar. In this case you send the visitor to a "sales" page and payout occurs upon completion of some contact information. If you think of it in terms of CB sales, it almost feels like cheating. If the user is interested enough to learn more (with no obligation to pay), you get paid. These are usually 1 to 2 page forms. From what I've found these have payouts from $10-$30.

Type 4: These are the subscription services like VOIP etc. These can pay out up to and over $100, but require a sign-up (so kind of like a sale).

What remains are the ones that pay per click and per sale.
The PPC ones are simply that: each time someone clicks on the link/banner, you get paid ~$.01-$.05. If you get a lot of traffic on your website you might be interested. The good thing with these is that often if they follow your link and that results in a LEAD, you get paid a considerably bigger sum, and possibly even bigger with a sale (similar to some of the offers Shareasale has).

The PPS (pay per sale) ones are straightforward and all us CB guys know how it goes, but here it can get a bit interesting. There's lots of offers on here that don't require any specific product to be sold, just whatever product off a website (for example a coffee shop website). These are a lot like Linkshare.



Why promote CPA networks?

ROI
Most importantly: ROI! My ROI is absolutely ridiculous with CPA offers when compared to Clickbank even at its best. Simply put, these convert like crazy, and if you find the right offer with the right payout, your home free. As an example, I started slowly promoting some Azoogle offers starting on the 1st of March on a $4 a day budget, and by the 8th or so I had made over $400. Often I hadn't spent close to my $4 a day (low CPC costs), and so on an investment of ~$12-$15 I made just over $400. That kind of ROI is what made me jump head long into CPA networks.

Affiliate Managers
Second, and also very importantly, the affiliate managers (your contact with the CPA network) are amazing! They will more than gladly help you with any questions over the phone or AIM, they'll gladly tell you what offers are converting the best (because the more you make the more they make), and they'll even boost your payout if you ask them (example: I went from $40 payout to $42.50 on an offer, and from $1.20 to $1.70 on some email submits). Even better, you often don't even have to ask them. My AM told me out of the blue after I asked her some questions that she'll boost the payout on any offers I want to promote.
Summary: Fantastic communication with the network!

These are just my opinions so far in the 25 days or so since I've joined CPA networks. Perhaps ClayTrainor and hgarcia can correct me on anything I may have inadvertently misrepresented or will just add anything I missed.

Good point there about the affiliate managers. Just about every CPA network I signed up to has amazingly helpful affiliate managers. That's like a standard thing. I guess that's what you get with regulation (pretty much all of the networks review your application).

Someone asked me an excellent question, so here it is along with my answer:

With CPA offers, can you promote them via Google much like we do the ClickBank Stuff?

Exactly the same way. The adwords part of the swap from CB to CPA networks remains exactly the same. Target, test, repeat. Some offers specify how they want to be promoted though, so make sure you keep an eye out on that (some require you to promote them only by email for example) and also some won't let you bid on the site name, or use the name as the display URL. Fortunately there are many offers, so I just tend to skip over these in favor of more affiliate-friendly (less restrictive) offers.

Good point RazorElite. I forgot about the application review. That's something you'll find different when compared with Clickbank. Instead of just signing up, you have to have your application reviewed. Fortunately this is pretty quick, and doesn't take more than 2 days usually. Azoogle was 2 days for me (they're swamped with applications often since they're very popular), while both Copeac and Maxbounty approved me within 24 hours.

A way to get approved the very same day is to get a hold of somebody from the company. Either try to get an AIM screenname of an affiliate manager from the CPA Network or call them. Always works for me. Well at least so far. Other than that, the wait for an approval will vary.

Ive been promoting products primarily through clickbank and shareasale for a while now. I tried to sign up for Azoogle a while back and got denied, it seems like you need a high-traffic site to be accepted?

Well that should convince basically anyone to give it at least a try !
I'm certainly going to look into it, but I first have to finish some new ClickBank product sites

that's strange.

I didnt even have a site, or anything set up when i signed up. I just told them i had ppc traffic, and they happily activated my account.

Did you talk to them on the phone? or Did you just wait and let them email you? If you talk to them on the phone you can get on really easily. If not you may end up just waiting 3 months and getting a denial in your application.

Even better if you have AIM, just add AzoogleAds in your buddylist and try to get in contact with him/her. If he/she does answer, just tell him you recently signed up for Azoogle and the person will usually have an affiliate manager contact you on the phone within minutes.

Nope, I got aproved (but i still need to send them a W8 via postal mail) and i dont send a lot of traffic.

Make sure you do send the W9 in so you can get paid.
Some networks make it easier (Copeac is one of them I believe) and you can just fill out the W9 online. An e-W9 form. hehe I thought that was very cool.

I've got a small question for you, I get leads very easily with Copeac, but
almost all their products/services WebPages get a really bad QS (10$)
how do you deal with this?

Making landing pages with good QS is the only way I see,

Yeah I'm with you on that one. Most the "sales" pages do have a very unsatisfactory QS. As you said, the only way to get the full benefit of the offers is to have your own landing pages. Otherwise you can hunt for those rare offers that already do have a decent landing page of their own, but good luck with that. I've been evading this problem myself for a while now, but it's been hampering my efforts greatly. So with my interest in expanding my offer-base, I'm in the exact same boat as you right now. Time to get learning again.

You shouldn't be denied. Just get a hold of an affiliate manager on AIM or give them a call or email. I emailed them and was accepted the same day after I emailed them. And all there is to fill out is a W9 form, which is literally just your name, SSN, and some stuff like that. It's one short page.

Think about it like this, harder to get in = fewer number of people that are competing with you on the same niches.

I haven't gotten into PPC much as I mainly do promoting/sales via SEO. I'll take a look at the CPA stuff and see if I can integrate it in. Any hints/tips would be appreciated? I'd like to get out from under CBs thumb and make consistent real money.

Wow, what a great article you have written there and I am glad that you are doing well with CPA, I am another one who knows there is potentional in this sector of the industry. There are people that are earning over $100k per month from these. There are not many, but there are some.
