I do, not very much though, you can pretty much do anything to a blog that you would do with a website with the exception that it takes posts rather than doing the usual html

You should have at least 1000-2000 unique daily visitors, otherwise you will make no money at all. I can show you this with a very simple calculation. Lets assume that you have 1000-2000 visitors daily and 1 out of 100 visitors clicks on AdWords text ad. So you will get 10-20 clicks daily. And if you get $0,05 for a click from Google you will earn $15-30 a month. Not as mutch as you expected?

Still, there are some ways to improve your earnings:
    - In some topics keywords are can be quite expensive
    - With some tricks you can improve CTR, but anything bigger than 3% is unreal.
    - You can always have more visitors

Anyway, making money with blogging its not an easy money, most of blogs do not have critical mass of readers. Getting visitors is the hardest part.

PS. Make sure you choose subject you are really interested in.

I think I tried that a while back. I don't like that it depends on others reading your blog for you to make $$. I like something a little more solid and reliable.

If you'd like a little bit of motivation, check out: Can Blogging Make You Rich??

Adsense is one way to capitalize on blogging, as mentioned above. Though I would disagree that 3% CTR and above is unrealistic. I even have some static web pages that get 20-50% click through rates, but of course they are the exception. The key to increasing your adsense revenue is more competitive topics (optimizing for more competitive keyword phrases) and tweaking for the highest possible click-through rate (CTR).

You can also create and sell products, promote affiliate programs, and sell text links (the latter of which seems to be the bread & butter for million dollar bloggers).

Check out the article at the link above - I think you'll enjoy it

I run a blog and have adsense running everywhere (no more than 3 sets, though) and it generates about £100, so about $200, every month.

It's easy to maintain and now that there are about 300 posts I don't have to do much to keep it at that level.

how do you go about selling a text link?

I guess you would need a high powered blog for that, with lots of unique content.

I would NOT put adsense on a blog.

Treat it like a landing page... keep it targeted... to a specific niche... you only need 30 visitors a day to make money... get an opt in on there... build a list

You can make money from Adsense if you have a high number of unique visitors, but ultimately you're still going to make more through list capture techniques and promotion of useful, reliable products, not crap.. You need to create a profit funnel to work your readership up through your products.

You should make about $20 per month per blog. The secret ( and it is no secret) do a blog a week = $1000 per month after a year. Blog a day can really add up. Keep adding blogs and try to use that money towards your ad budget. There are possibilities for quick money (see my link), but the real wealth is in RESIDUAL INCOME...memberships, some web hosts, subscriptions, etc.

You can make money from blogging.. Depends what you blog about really. If your blogging about internet marketing and such then ofcourse you can.. Same techinques apply to a blog as a website for marketing. You've got PPC, Adsense, Affiliate products/comissions, etc.

Like in reality, you need to give the people what they want and deliver on time.

Blogging is an interactive way of making quick decisions and responses to your visitors. The better the content the more people will keep coming back. For example, why do you go back to a certain website or blog everyday or every other day?. Its simply because they got what you need. Well, do the same.

Success is giving people what they want when they want it. Don't just throw anything onto your blog or website just because you know it works or its cheap and think people will buy it. No. It doesn't work that way. Be specific and target your niche. Here's a hint: Go to inventory.overture.com and search for a keyword you love. Now you see all those numbers beside your keyword?. That tells you how many people or searches have been done during that giving month. The higher the number the better the niche. Take that niche, research and market. Present your blog as though you know it all about your niche. Don't use "I think" or "a friend of mine". YOU are the expert here and nobody else. If you need help, go to Wikipedia.org and add your keyword.

Think about your visitors first before you think about making any money because without them there's no sense in being any business. Forget adsense, affiliate marketing, etc. and first concentrate on your niche. Once you've got that set-up then you start adding your money-machines. #1 RULE - VISITORS FIRST.

Apply these steps and you'll make money and never let anyone tell you any different.

    Red face How many blogs?

This I know is a new IM question, but no question is a bad one. How many blogs?

And is that backlinking? from other blog places to effectively climb the engines?

    Thanx.

    Waste of time IMO.
Unless you are a big name marketer and want to dedicate most of your time doing it, don't expect to make much.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the Authority Site Blackbook is free for an email signup!

The bits you want from it are the parts on social networking. Using Digg, StumbleUpon and Squidoo in an intelligent way can drive lots of traffic and G!Love to your blog.

Another piece of advice if you are thinking about multiple blogs - get yourself a reseller hosting account. In fact if your serious about IM, you need a Reseller account anyway!

good shout - already have a reseller account, a UK one.

The next level up, like you say, is to go into the higher echelons of the internet, Squidoo & DIGG and del.ici.ous- those sort of things. I'm enjoying having a sniff around this forum at momennt - v. useful and friendly.

Any other tips please post. I'm quite switched on to these things but you need to get your head around them first.
