I don't think I understand what you said but let me give it a try...

There are looots of ways to start promoting a product with an affiliate id.

1) Forum marketing - simply post forums that are somehow related to the product you're promoting.
2) Article Marketing - good way to make money if you have no money to invest, though it takes tons of time and work. Try http://www.bummarketingmethod.com/
3) Myspace marketing - get lots of friend and sell to them.
4) PPC Marketing - this is the 'easiest' way, though the fastest and can bring lots of cash, though requires some investment.

Maybe I missed something but you get the general idea. But since you're a complete newbie you gotta read, read and read, here's a perfect place to start.

I would recommend getting a clickbank account...
After, it's up to you on how your are going to sell, and what.

Per example, I know a little about iPods and PSPs so I started a blog, I write articles, post in forums etc...

You've got to try out a couple of things, and see what works, these forums are great! U se the search uptop you'll find plenty of info!

I'm also new to the Affiliate World :), it's a bit hard when your first starting off, but you will get used to it, you just need to keep reading and reading and learning about Affiliate Marketing. Anyway lol i haven't got much to say because i'm also new, but i would get a Clickbank Account www.clickbank.com And start from there. Marketing wise, i agree to the other replies above start in forums, blogs etc...
I recently only started to promote my Affiliate links through Google Adwords, It's still a learning curve for me! But i'm getting there...
