Beyond Adwords and Overture, there are a variety of other great ways to advertise affiliate programs. Goclick, miva, findwhat, msn adcenter, and others are great to try! They are inexpensive and sometimes will convert very well for you.
Without disclosing the specifics of your niche or disclosing "trade secrets", let's turn this thread into a list of places to take our campaigns to extend the market that we reach.
I'll start. This isn't PPC, but the product involves it. I've been promoting affiliate programs such as the Rich Jerk using solo e-zine ads. These go to double opt-in subscribers of reputable internet marketing newsletters. I've already hit the break even point on the first day!
Post your tips here!

You just started promoting rich jerk? I figured that niche had already been filled.

ha, thats the point dave.
on adwords and overture it HAS been saturate. mrosson is using his ingenuity to take his affiliate link to other resourches of advertisement. gotta think outside the box

I have tried miva. It's insanely cheap, and sometimes converts surprisingly well for some niches, but it's in no way consistent, and I get the feeling there's a lot of fraudulent traffic from it (not all, but a high proportion of people landing on my page for 3 seconds then clicking back).
I've had some success with adbrite, if you're careful picking where you buy your links.
I've also tried door-knocking, where I go to people's houses and tell them to buy the stuff I promote, but that's a slow way to get traffic to your site :)

Besides adwords and overture I've only tried ad center, and so far I haven't liked it. Of course part of the reason is my dislike of Microsoft programs and software, but there's just something general about its set up that bothers me.

I haven't done much with adCenter due to their incompatibility with Macs.

I also tried Miva several times, but lousy results. Considering it doesn't convert very well and it's system is worst than Overture's, I don't waste my time with it.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOGGGLLLLEEEE!!!!!!
If your new. stay here. its the network that generates the sales that pay the bills! playing the game on one field keeps your ad spending directed also.
yahoo next. msn last. everyone else - in the trash. results <> times+money invested. truthfully though you really can just play google. far more than enuff traffic on giggles for all your games.

Hmmm...
I'm yet to see anyone prove to me that these methods really do work in the long run.
I'm happy to be proved wrong tho'.
Best
