I think some people place to much emphasis on forum advertising. I don't think it is bread and butter to most marketers.

LOL!
Yeah, forum advertising is a waste of time. However, if you are going to be on a forum anyway, then have a good sig, but DON'T do it as a way to try and make money, total waste of time.

I would agree with having a good signature, but dis-agree about having such a signature being a total waste of time. I agree one should promote the signature. One also should "pick" thier forums carefully.
I do really great in sales on the "moms' boards, with just my signature to my sites. You also have to establish yourself on the boards/forums, dont just pop in, post a link & sig, and expect sales, it wont happen, you have to be well known on that forum. Blessings Diana

I believe she is refering to the WAHM's work at home moms.
A very good audience for promoting work at home products, but not as good as it use to be.

Yeah, just type WAHM or SAHM ( stay at home mom) and the word forum or the word message or the word board in your google search
I also find my siggy pig sales thru certian hobbies such as gardening forums, or cooking forums, or sewing. A siggy pig sale is a sale thru a signature as in they didnt know it was coming and what hit them to purchase, cept my siggy piggy line and the sales page the signature link takes them too..Make it something you can relate to, find forums for your hobbies. There is a "make money selling crafts' on clickbank that I post in the craft message boards ( I use a different user ID than this one here).
Just find forums you can stand to hang out in, set up a nice attactive 1-2 line signature ( most furoms wont allow more), I have them all saved (the forums) in my favorite links all in order depending on the type of forum it is...Once you join the forum and set your signature link in your profile just post away...I change my sigs every 3-4 months too, because the same people need to see a new thing...geez I am giving away my secrets I should be writing a ebook!
Let me say this 80-90% of my sales comes thru my siggy links in forums....The rest thru email groups I belong to, and its all free...I average $1300-1500 every clickbank paycheck ( every 2 weeks) with 4 different clickbank Ids ( I am old school taught before there was tracking codes) And thats just clickbank. I average 6 hrs daily on the pc. Blessings Diana

Well look for those posts that say "I am a newbie", Private message them to join your email group, they soon shall purchase from you...=)

If done correctly forum marketing can work well, but you MUST NOT approach it from a sales perspective, use it to make contacts, get your name out there as a resource or ”expert” and always aim to add value… the contacts will eventually flock to you
+ There are some SEO benefits if you are promoting your own site/page.

True, as other's have said, I think the greatest payoff to both people comes when you're fairly well known to the forum you're in and genuinely want to offer something of help to others, thus benefiting them with information that will actually help them out, and yourself with a sale.
I find that credibility comes over time with sharing useful knowledge and contributing to the community in a meaningful way..., and there's really no shortcut for it, but done in the right way (and with the right motives too), it's something that will pay off big in multiple ways in the long run.

I never had success with forum advertising. I have participated in many forums and I have posted thousands of posts, however the effect is 0 :innocent:

I'm starting to get some sales, and some people email saying I've read your post on the forum. That proves it works, just needs the right approach. (=

I think forum advertising is a great way to promote your affiliate program or get free publicity, like the ultimatewealthpackage guy got

It seems that usually in order for people buy stuff after looking in your sign
you need to have some reputation in the forum your advertising at,
joining many forums and posting for sales doesn't seem to work well.

Yea I think that reputation plays a huge role in the forum advertising, well its never late to try again :)

Now im posting in several forums...
I don't have a big reputation in these forums...and by the same way..still don't have a sale coming from my sig!
Will try for a couple of month again...and will see what's going on!

Forum marketing can be very profitable depending
on how active the forum is.
There was a time when the warrior forum allowed
you to have affilaite links in your sig file..
Being that i have over 1,000 post's over their i was
seeing some great results. Ofter 2-3 sign ups a week
for some mlm programs..
But i do think its a waste of time if you plan to sit
at a forum all day and post. But if you are posting anyway
then what the hay!

The trend of considering sig links spam is a bummer. It isn't like anyone has to click on them.
It is also annoying when a forum post an advert in a advert section; but, then doesn't have an advert section it's self.
It is becomming harder to find sig link friendly forums.
Perhpas that is why some of us get into forum ruts and just hang around a couple of them.
One more thing is some people will think about joining. If you want sign ups right away you need to offer something that is free to join. I find promoting free stuff to be a psychological boost. Though the most I've ever actually made from a free program is $16.
