HGarcia,
Do you use the content network for most of your advertising or not?

hey man... im just starting with adwords.
I've been trying to promote beats365.com with adwords for 2 days. I have turned off the content network, and am spending $6 a day. So far i have %2.4 CTR and 83 clicks with an average of 0.22 a click.
I've been modifying my ads and keywords regularly to try to keep the CTR up.
Should i keep goign with this or give up and try another product? i'm a little discouraged that i havent seen a sale yet and i've spent almost $20 in clicks. I'm trying to keep my ads as optimized as possible but so far, I have very little to work with since there have been no conversions yet.
thanks buddy
p.s. we gotta get around to playing some COD2 sometime

What I would like to know is how a newbie should start with advertising? I have started with US Free Ads and I am getting clicks, but no conversions. I would like to start with Adwords or Yahoo, but we are on a tight budget. While I know you have to spend money to make money, we are worried about losing all our money. In a nutshell, what advice do you have for some one who is just starting out?

HGarcia,

I use content network sometimes. All you have to do is test if it works for the product you are promoting. If it doesnt, just dont use it again for the product you've tested with it.

Hey Bro,
Are you going for general keywords? Also bidding 22 cents can really be hurtful if used wrong. Try bidding lower and finding other keywords that you can related to Beats365. I've had keywords that converted that dont deal directly with beats. Just think creative.
Sincerely,
H Garcia
P.S. Just set up a time. Im always available to play COD2 whenever.

Hi Matt and Mandie,
The way to go at this is not to use your own money for now but credits that are available to use. What you can do is open up a new adwords account with a different card with the yahoo $50 promotional credits link.
Once you have signed up with that, get connected to a Google Advertising Professional account and you can get another $50 worth of credits added in. Thats a total of $100 to play with.
However you should treat it like as if it was your money. So before you really start, learn to come up with great keywords, how to structure ads to convert, and so on. You can ask those questions here.
Once you have confidence to start, give it a go. Pick a product you think that you would buy (use your natural instincts) and set up a campaign for it. Keep in mind to keep related keywords together and as much as possible, do your best to add the keywords you are bidding on in your ad.
In the beginning also bid low on your keywords. Also be sure to stay away from very general keywords. For example "dog training". I wouldnt bid on that to start with since it has a lot of competition and advance strategies would be necessary to make profit off of that keyword. Now "saint bernard training" can be a good keyword to bid on.
You can also take that keyword and make it more targeted like saint bernard training school. Be sure to also use different variations like abbreviations, St Bernard Training. So on and so forth.
If you can do this correctly and carefully, you wouldn't have to spend one dime of your own money and you can be in profit. Now thats what I call a free business.
Sincerely,
H Garcia
P.S. Overtime youll notice you will start to develop your own way of organizing keywords. You will be able to develop your own style. If anything you will be able to create a system that you may end up selling to people.

i reduced my max bid to about 15 cents. I have over 400 keywords that i'm testing, and i' mconstantly deleting ones that dont help out my CTR.
Im also constantly trying to optimize my ads, to keep ctr up, but i always make sure the price is included in the 3rd line of the ad.
95 clicks still no sales... I'm gonna try to think of more "creative" keywords if i can. but am drawing a bit of a blank.

"I would like to start with Adwords or Yahoo, but we are on a tight budget. "
H Garcia, for those just starting out and on a very tight budget. For Adwords would you suggest broad match to them or the more targetted phrase or exact match?

I would use all three but be sure they are really targeted keywords. These are usually the 3 word keywords. Now if you are going to bid on general keyword terms with them, be sure to watch them carefully. As they can be way too general sometimes and get you a lot of clicks. Be sure to also use negative keywords as they are indeed helpful in getting conversions.

You can use your own website if you want and/or use just the actual clickbank hoplink. Therefore you wouldnt need your own website. However it is better to have your own domain name to use. Otherwise somebody can outbid you and/or take over your positions if he or she happens to promote the same product with the same URL. Now if you were to have your own domain name with a cloaked affiliate link, you wouldnt have to worry about that. Also if the products website you are promoting happens to go down, you can always change it to another one without touching your ads. If you were to change your ads destination url, you would kill your quality score and lose your current ad positions and thats not good.

H Garcia

Yea you can just gamble away and quit only if you didnt go above $50. Otherwise the remaining balance that you owe will be charged to your card. The only thing is I dont think you would want to quit once you make one sale. Its that addicting.

Just put it this way, the longer it takes to gets released, the more quality is going to be put into it. Not only will the system work for many years to come, its going to be easily adaptable to any change that google does.

You sad little troll.
Note the answer: "I would use all three"
Also, if you are on a very tight budget then maybe adwords isn't a good choice. Don't spend your lunch money trying to learn adwords.

Somebody suggesting using broad match is the only drivel I see in this thread. Anybody I know who is successful with PPC for themselves and in managing other people's accounts, don't use broad match.

Oh it was just a test to see if i can take over. Apparently it was easier than I thought so I didnt really need to care about setting up conversion data. I also just used ringtones and ringtone as keywords, so it wouldnt be too hard to know which keyword converted.

I am new to this and have some questions. I have been a C.B member since Aug. and have been running this campaign in google since that time. The campaign is for movie downloads. When I log into my account and click on my campaign it shows that my default is .05, clicks 1,058, Impr. 250,677, CTR 0.42%, Avg CPC 0.05, Avg Pos 4.8. Now this is where I am at a loss of information. There are 52 keywords inactive for search. Google suggests that I raise my bids to $10.00  or Improve there quality through optimization. :punish: My question is how do you do that when all I am doing is promoting the web site? I have used wordtracker and the keyword tool that google has, thinking that maybe my keywords were not relevent to the product. But thats not it. So what does quality through optimization mean?
Thank you :)

Thats pretty good dude, I would try to replicate that on Overture :) Or, if you want to keep trying on Google, just try to place your keywords somewhere on your landing page and that should help with relevancy. I have heard, but not confirmed, that you can make a drop down list of your keywords and put it somewhere on your page, and that will help your relevancy. Dont quote me on that though.

Thank you for your responses but how do I put the keywords on my landing page when all I am doing is just promoting the web site? I don't have access to the landing page. I am sure that the merchant should have some of the keywords on thier landing page. In thier affiliate back office they give you a list of keywords to use. I just expanded on them using exact and general matches along with negative keywords. In sept I did make a few sales but it has gone sour now and not had a sale in two weeks. This is where my road block is in trying to produce quality keywords through optimization. I also tried Look Smart search engines but that was a waste of money.

Be sure to group your keywords in related groups as well as try your best to include the keywords inside the ad. Your ads may not be targeted for all your keywords so split your keywords up and make sure they get included in the ads.

Dear Hd Garcia,
I would like to thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge in these forums. I have realized that the key to success in Aff Mktng is Keywords, more specifically having thousands of targeted keywords,
My question is if we have lets say 20000 keywords or more for a particular product or service, then how many landing pages/content pages do we need keeping the adwords quality score in mind.
For example for 20k keywords, let say i grouped them into 200 adgroups with 100 similar keywords (many might be low search volume ones) in each group. Do we need 200 landing/content pages addressing those specific keywords in each family.
What are your thoughts?
Thank you very much for your time
Regards
