excellent, I'm a newbie at something again!
Now I'm quite aware there is no definitive answer for my question but I would like an idea as to how you guys/gals know to move on to a different product.
My story so far... I was born in to the affiliate marketing game yesterday. Okay so I've read a lot of forums for a few years, made money for other people on Adwords etc...
Yesterday I signed up to CB, chose a product in a niche that is of interest to me got a small handful of keywords and one negative keyword (-free :) ) and set up an adwords campaign. So far, 50 clicks, no sales - this much is fine. But when do I say "this product isn't converting for me!" - after 100 clicks? More? Until I'm living off catfood and hand outs?
After 50 clicks, I added another ad variation in to the mix with some "high octane" words to see if that improves CTR, but I think my keywords are providing me with good quality traffic.
Is there a place where people spill their guts about what CB product make money for them?

500 Clicks Per KW is an average before you adjust or quit.
You will have to research out the products you wish to sell yourself. Some people have better luck with certain Niches and others do not. It's just the way it is. Everyone will tell you to promote something you have an interest in. Why? Because you will enjoy doing it and you will have better results promoting the product(s) you know something about.
Best of Luck

thanks for the reponse.
So how do you all suggest I spend my time (constructively!) whilst waiting for these 500 clicks?
Start investigating the next product to promote perhaps?

I usually base my decisions on time or money spent rather than amount of clicks.. If something gets a good ctr 2-5% for about a week or so w/ no conversions.. I'll go back and try to figure out if its just a bad product or my campaign that sucks.. if it's the latter, ill adjust my campaign and try for another week..
Alternatively, if I start losing up to 5-8x the commission I'd make from a single sale, I'll go back and again decide if it's my campaign or the product..

Hi JamieJelly,
You know the saying don't put all your eggs in one basket? lol Well as they said in the mean time look for another offer to promote.
I was just wondering what's your website or niche?
Please feel free to contact me if you'd like my personal assistance. I could take the time with you, to look at your website and suggest the campaigns that would be most effective. We could work together to achieve your website's maximum earning potential!
I wish you all the success!

Honestly man, from personal experience, i'd advise not starting with PPC for a newbie... I've attempted it a couple times and have done nothign but lose money... i'd suggest using bum marketing and USFreeAds (sig) to get some money first and then use that money to try your hand at PPC.
just my 2 cents.

What do other people do?
Perhaps I have been mislead
However, I was told you can't base anything on less than 500 Clicks. I would be very interested to know, as would others. This is one time when I would LOVE to be told I am totally wrong :)

thanks for the input. I have run successful PPC campaigns on Google for a client of mine so I know Adwords quite well. The trouble is, my client has a product he believes in and it does convert well, I have no product so have to rely on someone elses!

Hi Jessica, my site is still in production, but will be launching shortly. I anticipate a lot of organic traffic which should ease my spending on PPC.
At the moment I am sending traffic directly to the CB merchant site.
If you wish to talk more, drop me a PM

it's all about linkage :D
build links, it is very very boring but it must be done! Not any old links though, try to get links from sites with a theme similar to yours.

And how do i approach sites? where can a find sites who would link exchange with me? is there some kind of directory?
can i pay for sites to link to mine?

you may want to start a new thread with your question, hopefully you will get more responses!
you can find a lot of directories to submit to here: http://www.directorycritic.com although as to how useful it is for SEO is debatable. I got a PR6 just from directory submission with one site, but what good is PR6 if it gets you little traffic?

I move on when a few hundred clicks shows I'm not breaking even after refining and laser targetting for the product/service.
ie.
1. Commission from sale = $20
2. Avg cost per click = 20 cents
Thus, AT LEAST 1 sale every 100 clicks to break even. Otherwise, I move on.
