Welcome!:)
A key part of affiliate marketing is, obviously, having ads that other people can view (and then hopefully click on and buy from!). For this, most of us use Google Adwords, though not soley. To learn about Adwords, I would suggest the Google Adwords Learning Center, which conviniently enough will teach you about Google Adwords.

Hi SamPhillips,
It all depends on your site content and audience, you must find related ads.
Please feel free to contact me if you'd like my help. I could take the time with you, to look at your website and suggest the campaigns that would be most effective. We could work together to achieve your website's maximum earning potential!
I'm always available for your support. I wish you all the success! :)

Nice to see someone from SD...
And, what about the people that dont have a website per-se, just a sale's page for an affiliate product... is there still any decent money to be made here?

get yourself a daily routine and gameplan
my suggestions for newbies is..
1. daily blog - this is your search engine traffic.. any host nowadays has fantastico which can put a blog or any other type of content mangement system on a domain name..natural traffic is the best traffic
2. PPC - you need to get in there and build and adjust your campaigns . i suggest using both adwords and yahoo search marketing (Overture)
3. Research - there are lots of websites that can provide you with online marketing tips and suggestions. Search your favorite search engine for marketing tips..everyone is different and has their own little special practices what you might read one place another suggests otherwise
4. Reports - keep track of what is working and what is not... this is critical ..why waste timeand money on something that isn't working...happens daily
hope this helps some....

The adwords learning center is a GREAT place to start.
What I recommend is not even worrying about making a profit when you are still learning. Yeah......I went there: Don't worry about making a profit at first. Just keep working at it, and with persistence it WILL come. :) The idea is to break even so your mistakes don't cost you money, but you don't take unnecessary risks because you think it's supposed to be really easy since a lot of people have made millions of dollars with internet marketing...which they HAVE, but only through years of experience. Having a "break even" mindset gets you into an ROI-based thinking, which is KEY. Obviously, in the beginning, you'll want to set a low daily budget. But once you start getting sales, and you have a campaign that is breaking even, work on your bids, ad copy, landing page (if you have one, I dont personally think it's that big of a deal), and get it to a profitable stage. Even if your ROI is small, but positive, then put your daily budget on $1,000 a day. Don't worry though, it will never go up that high.....but you actually shouldn't worry, because if your ROI is 25%, each day you spend $1,000 you make $1,250! Not bad eh?
