Hi All,
First, I'm glad that this board exists -- I am just starting to put a site together and reading through the posts has given me a lot of ideas and things to think about.
Here are some of the questions I have; apologies if they are too elementary, but I am a newbie and trying to get my head wrapped around this...
1. I spent a long time in the financial services industry and have a lot of knowledge about finance, economics, trading, etc. I thought I would leverage this to start a site, use PPC advertising, and promote CB products (http://www.WinnersCircleTrading.com). There are so many investment seminars, etc. on TV, that I wonder if this niche is already too overexploited in the world of CB / affiliate programs as well?
2. I read some of the Rich Jerk's material, but was turned off by what I thought was providing a superficial, insubstantial product. The way I am planning http://www.WinnersCircleTrading.com is to try to offer a fairly information-rich, useful site that would allow me to score fairly high in the Google natural search algorithm (and thus would presumably allow me to pay less for my PPC ads, I think, if I understand how the PPC scheme on Google works). Am I just being an ignorant sap?! I am spending a good deal of time researching things, building the site, looking for products to recommend (and not recommend). What is the feeling of the members here? Is this a waste of time? Should I simply do a (or actually several) RichJerk-style quick-and-dirty one-pager and be done with it?
3. I want to review different CB products. Is the usual way to go about this to purchase prospective products and review them, or do CB vendors supply reviewers with products in return for promoting them. I suppose this is the whole affiliate discount thing and I would just sign up as an affiliate, buy the thing for half-price, or whatever, and write this as part of the expense of setting up a new business... right?
4. I read one interesting thread about CB not paying or perhaps doing something funky with counting orders and apportioning credit to affiliates etc. Since I spent so long in financial services, I am sure that everyone in the world is just out there to cheat me, so when I read this thread, my paranoia increased a good deal. Is CB a partner to be trusted? Any strategies to make sure I am not being sc**wed out of money that should be coming to me?
5. I have also read here that a lot of people seem happy with making 10 sales a day from a single promotion. This sounds like a very small number to me and I wonder whether this type of business is really economically feasible. However, I suppose if someone is making 10 sales a day at 20 sites, that is a pretty good living... Should I give up on the idea that I will be able to make reasonable money by running only one, fairly complex site?
This is a long post -- apologies. As you can tell, I am simply trying to get my head around this business model. Any help you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated.
All the best,
Erik
