I started about 2 months ago to set up a website promoting acne related products. It is not until after one and a hlaf month, I made my first sale which amounted to 3 dollars plus. As times went by, I made a total of 40 dolllars. I know it is not much but it did provide me some motivation to carry on. The problem is I just can't possibly go like this as I won't be able to earn a significant earning for my living. It is time for me to seek out other ways of earning money online.

I suggest you educate yourself first. Learn everything you need to know about affiliate marketing then choose a very good affiliate program.

Without a review of your site, I couldn't tell you what is
right or wrong. Always sign off with your website or email
address.
Consider placing your site in front of your market, namely
social media sites...
Write new "content" for your site on a regular basis as
the search engines will stop reviewing if you go stagnant.
Develop a "limited" paid search program with Google...
Sit back and watch for thirty days..

Hi Flowerhorn, The first dollar is the most difficult one to earn. You've done a lot better than many people who keep studying and analyzing and never take the first step.
I've found that case studies work really well, if you describe in specific detail exactly how a product has helped you.

Hi it's looks like a lot of good advice! I have had a little problem with my computer as my power supply cord took up smoking! A first for everything! I wanted to mention there are so many ways to increase your traffic, and many ways are free! Also look into other products by researching the market. Example...see what's people are buying at ebay. This can help you find out what consumers are buying :]

Define what you're really good at, first, if you are really good at SEO , then try to read more about how it works and how you can make more sales on that, If you're a BUM marketer then start learning how to write better articles and that kind of stuff...

First I would like to congratulate you for taking some action. You should place a small classified ad in a magazine or newsletter for people who have skin problems. Your main objective would be to generate inquiries and followup with a sales letter. The classified ad may cost you $50.00 or $70.00 bucks.

The best thing there is it gave you motivation. Try switching to another niche.

WOW $3 for a sale, that sucks... I make $80 per sale promoting a web host. Some products you can make as much as $200 per sale...
You're going to have to invest in an affiliate marketing program... I have completed My Online Income System and Profit Lance but didn't learn much from them ... I now work with Wealthy Affiliate and have started to make a lot more money...
Have a look around at some products, but I think WA is the best...

The good news is that you have proven to yourself that you can make affiliate marketing work.
The bad news is that you have chosen a product with a very low payout. If you find a product or service that you can develop a passion for that pays a higher commission, you could do very well.
For example, the SEO Affiliate Program that I promote pays up to 15% of the sale, meaning that if a company needs SEO services and pays $10,000 to the company, you would earn $1,500. For the same work that you put into the acne program, I think you could get a lot more excited about doing that again.
I have personal affiliate programs that I promote and one pays $500 per sale and I have a blog that sends a handful of leads per month for the service - with two deals in progress.
If you need help finding a niche to promote, feel free to PM me.
Most of all, don't give up on what could be a lucrative income stream for you.
Best, Anthony

I agree with everything that has been said - you need to get into grips with your SEO. However, I also wondered about the concept of your business - what is actually that you offer? What is different about it? Is it a unique product that you cannot buy anywhere else, or is cheaper etc?

I would look into Clickbank. Find a high gravity product on there, that is really in demand, i would say try fatloss4idiots. You know most woman will do anything to look good in there bathing suits this summer. But thats a proven seller, and there's obviously a lot more you can promote that have high gravity besides the one I mentioned. The one I mentioned pays 32.00 a sale and there are many that pay a lot more. Sure beats 3 bucks. Once you find a couple you like promote the heck out of them, the sales will eventually come. Good luck, and don't give up!

maybe you missed some points in affiliate marketing, and that's the reason why your product are not selling that much, most people's mistake was building a website and thought it will go on with itself, but the truth is you still need to work it out, try to build links for your website and put it on the first page of google via methods like social bookmarking, do follow blog commenting on relevant subjects, article submission and a lot more, your still in learning process like I, everything starts from the bottom so don't give up easily..

If you are starting with affiliate programs, always start with products that always or in all parts solve a certain problem that people are eager to pull and swipe their credit cards for.
Moreover, make sure that the product is not only useful, but somewhat unique, as to narrow down the competition. And be very wary of scams that lie in wait to take advantage of one's eagerness.

In the end, it all boils down to numbers. Any good offer will get a minimum of 1% conversion rate if targeted traffic comes to the offer page. If the offer is under $100, you should get a 2-3% conversion rate. Over 100 it drops to .2 percent.
