Good article. The biggest thing that I got from your article is that it is hard work. It is not a get rich quick scheme. You have to be patient and work hard at it. But most importantly is that we need good mentors with a proven track record. For me I found Profit Miracle (http://www.abinternetsolutions.com/profit_miracle) to be one of the best in the industry. They have developed a simple process that almost anyone can follow. They even developed an article generator that allows you to cut and paste the whole article into article submission sites.

Thank you again for that though provoking thread.

More and More people are lured into affiliate marketing and you might be one of them. Indeed, affiliate marketing is one of the most effective means of generating a full-time income through the Internet. It’s a fair deal between the merchandiser and his affiliates as both benefit from each sale materialized. Like in other kinds of business, a great deal of the profits in affiliate marketing depends on the affiliate’s advertising, promoting and selling strategies. Everyday, as affiliate marketing industry expands, competition heightens as well so an affiliate marketer must be creative enough to employ unique and effective ways to convince potential buyers to purchase or avail of the products and services offered.

Compared to traditional advertising practices, affiliate programs are more effective, risk-free and cost-efficient. But why do many people still fail in affiliate marketing? There are a lot of reasons and a lot of areas in the program to look into. The most critical aspect in the affiliate program is advertising. Many affiliate marketers fail in this aspect because they lack hard work, which is the most important thing in affiliate marketing and in all other kinds of business as well. Although it pays to be lucky, you cannot merely rely on it. Affiliate marketing isn’t as simple as directing customers to the business site. If you want to earn big, of course, you have to invest time and great amount of hard work in promoting the products. As earlier mentioned, the competition is very high and customers nowadays are very wise, too. After all, who doesn’t want to get the best purchase—that is, to pay less and get more in terms of quantity and quality.

Lack of preparation is also a reason why one fails in affiliate marketing, whether he is a merchandiser or an affiliate. Part of the preparation is researching. On the part of the merchant, he has to be highly selective in choosing the right affiliate websites for his affiliate program. In order to be sure he has the best choices, he must have exhausted his means in looking for highly interested affiliates whose sites are sure fit to his products and services. The affiliate site’s visitors must match his targeted customers. On the other hand, the affiliate marketer must likewise research on the good-paying merchandisers before he signs up for an affiliate program. He must ensure that the merchants’ products and services match his interests so he can give his full attention and dedication to the program. He can get valuable information by joining affiliate forums, comparing different affiliate programs and reading articles on affiliate marketing where he can get tips from experienced affiliate marketers on how to choose the best merchants and products with high conversion rate.

The website is a very important tool in the whole affiliate program. As an affiliate marketer, you should plan how your site is going to be, from domain name to the design, the lay-out, the content, and ads. Some users are particular about what they see at first glance and thus when they find your site ugly, they won’t read through the content even if your site has many things to say and offer. On the other hand, there those who want information more than anything else. Affiliate marketers with “rich-content” web sites are usually the ones who prosper in this business because the content improves traffic to the site. Websites with high quality contents—with relevant keywords and more importantly, right information about the product and not empty hyped-up advertisements—allow you to earn big in affiliate marketing even when you’re asleep. If you won’t be able to sustain the interest of your site visitor, you won’t be able to lead him to the merchants’ site. No click-through means no sale and thus, no income on your part.

Selecting a top level domain name is also crucial to the success of the affiliate program. Lots of affiliate sites don’t appear in the search engine results because they are deemed by affiliate managers as personal sites. Major search engines and directories would think of your site as transient ones and thus, they won’t list it in the directory. Before you decide on the domain name, know first what you are going to promote. Many fail because their sites are not appropriately named, so even when they feature the exact products the customer is looking for, the customer might think the site is not relevant and thus, won’t enter the site.

Above all, an affiliate marketer must be willing to learn more. Certainly, there are still a lot of things to learn and so an affiliate marketer must continue to educate himself so he can improve his marketing strategies. Many fail because they don’t grow in the business and they are merely concerned about earning big quickly. If you want long-term and highly satisfactory results, take time to learn the ins and outs of the business. Continue to improve your knowledge especially with the basics in affiliate marketing ranging from advertising to programming, web page development, and search engine optimization techniques. Likewise, study the needs and wants of your site users and how different merchandisers compete with each other.

Keep on trying; don’t get disappointed if your first attempts did not pay off. Thousands are attracted by the possibility of generating skyrocketing incomes through affiliate marketing and so they sign up in any affiliate program without carefully understanding every aspect of the business. When they don’t get instant results, they quit and sign up for another program and repeat the process of just copying links and referring them to others. When you sign up for an affiliate program, don’t expect to get rich in an instant. Work on your advertising strategies and be patient. You’ll never know how much you can get if you don’t persevere.

Many people are quite happy to put thousands of $$$ into a university education and perhaps 3, 4 or 5 years of their life , only to get a J.O.B. at the end of it and one that pays a W.A.G.E! But as mentioned above, most easily give up on their ONLINE EDUCATION when they start out in the AM business.

Be prepared to learn and apply new things and build your business over time. If you are young, doing this while studying may be the best move you have ever made.

Great posts & article.

To anyone starting out, don't look at Affiliate Marketing as a Get Rich Quick scheme. So many people have this mindset and give up as soon as they don't get results, or even worse, repeat the same mistakes over and over again on different programmes, losing money in the process.

Remember, affiliate marketing is a 'business' and to succeed you must treat it as such.

Cheers,
Dave :)

like in any other business, when non-business-oriented-people join the industry,
they:
don't believe --> starting to believe --> believe they can make it --> trying with full energy --> don't see immediate results --> starting to disbelieve --> don't believe

Excellent articles. I guess you must have a lot of experience in this biz. In my opinion to succeed in affiliate marketing we need to have expertise and credibility. this is important because we are promoting other people's product not our own. why should people believe our recommendation. there are other people selling the same stuff so why should they buying thru our link. this is critical part. understanding the buying process of affiliate products.

Ahhw. Thanks for the compliment. But I'm no expert in Affiliate Marketing. Maybe not yet. lol. I'm just around for like 5 months. lol. I'm still mastering the art of affiliate marketing. Sometimes, I think I'm too young for this. :weird: But anways....

Yeh, I agree with you. We should gain credibility from our customers so we can gain their trust. We have to get them to understand why they have to buy from us. That's why we give them bonuses. People love free stuffs anyway. lol.

I totally agree. Affiliate marketing is a huge bowl of steaming hot RISKS. you can get your tongue burned if you don't know what you're doing and you can't expect your first few attempts to be that magically fruitful. it's a very rare scenario. you're damn lucky or really good if that happens.:)

great job with the post!

Great post.

It's so true that people will spend tens of thousands of dollars on a college education, take 3, 4 or 5+ years to get a degree in hopes of landing a job at the end and earning maybe $40k to $100k per year.

Meantime people try an affiliate marketing technique maybe once or twice, fail and give up declaring it doesn't work because they didn't make $100k off their first attempt.

The people who succeed are the ones who put blinders on to all the outside noise, "get rich quick", "instant profits", "auto pilot profits" is all they hear, yet when they dive in they fail. BUT they failed because they have done one or two things wrong in their process and if they didn't give up but tried again fixing thier mistakes, they'd actually succeed.

Imagine if affiliate marketers spent FIVE years studying their technique and didn't make a dime while doing it. At the end do you think they'd succeed or fail?

Thank you for the general information on affiliate marketing. I guess I already knew most of them. It is indeed not a get rich scheme and it is not easy to eran money with affiliate marketing. Setting up the website is just a small part of affiliate marketing while the bigger challenge in driving targeted traffic to your site.

I have been trying to do that for 2 months but still haven't encountered any success.

If you are Newbie and know nothing abour making money online and you didnt make a penny until now dont add a Sig ( make zillion online or make 10000/day easy)

I totally agree with you feiyie. Hardwork is the key to success, without it you will really fail. Hardwork and patience are both needed in affiliate marketing.

I would say most never succeed because they focus on too many things.

truth be said, there are so many hype on the Internet and everyday you see new things coming out on the Internet, each promising to give you better leverage and ease on making money.

Don't keep jumping from opp to opp, instead, just focus on one strategy and master it before moving it to a new one.

If you look at all the well known experts, they do have a specialise skills that they brunch out from...

choose your poison carefully and trend from there.

I agree with Kenji... in that we have this what i would call herd mentality. Everyday new things emerge on the horizon and often times we can hardly resist the temptation to think that new things are always better than the old ones. And we go after new things everyday and in doing so, we lose the focus and fail to master in anything. It's like the old adage, 'jack of all trades, master of none'.:)

Great Article Feiyie! I agree with you. Most people stop right before hitting it big. Only if they knew that they were just so close and then they quit before getting to that next phase of success. Most of the failure just is failing to plan. When you fail to plan, then you're planning to fail.

Keep up the good advice.

huge mistake I make is overloading my campaigns. I hear so many things from people and affiliate managers on offers that people are killing on, so I want to start everything. I end up starting 4 niches at once and it just becomes a huge mess. Niches seem hot and I always feel like I have to get on every one of them at the same time, because soon they’ll be gone. I would have made a lot more money in the past month if I had just focused on 1 of the new offers I’ve started, instead of working like a madman on 4.
