For a lower priced product that costs around $30-$40, installment payments would probably end up increasing refunds more than sales. I bet a lot of people will choose installments even if they have the money and would normally pay the whole amount. Lets say an ebook is sold on installments, someone pays $10 and then gets to read it immediately. Because they've only payed a small portion, they may not feel that they've really purchased the book - more like they're just "testing it out". So they'll definitely be more inclined to ask for a refund in that case.
