View Full Version : Most effective ways to get traffic to your site ;)

Hi everyone!

Traffic, Traffic, Traffic! How do we get it? There are lots of possible ways to get traffic. All you need is to look at this list for your reference and check if you have done any of this yet.

Free methods:
Submission to SE's and directories
Article marketing
Email campaign
Forums, blogs and board postings
Social Bookmarking
Etc. etc.

Premium ways: (Should require a budget)
Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
Targetted Link backs
Professional SEO services
Ad spaces
Offline campaigns
Etc. etc.

Random and unique traffic is good to any site but getting targetted traffic is what makes the difference. This kind of traffic yields the highest conversion which would determine your site's success. Given a budget, I would always opt for PPC. PPC is a very effective way of getting targetted traffic given the proper treatment. Identify your niche and select the market you want to cater to and start from there. Research also on the keywords your desired market would most likely be looking for. IMO, one should be more focused on getting targetted traffic than just page views. Buying targetted link backs are also effective at getting targetted traffic. It really all boils down to what your site offers to your traffic ;)

Another great way of targetting your desired audience is through forum posting on similar niche with your link on your signature. What I like about forum posting is that it is totally free.

My question is : What methods do you use to draw traffic to your site? Random and targetted alike.

Hoping to hear from you!

MrCat ;)

Great list!

I am just getting started on blogging. Shouldnt really be that way since I have been writing articles for some time.

I love writing too.

Blogging really is one of the hottest things online now. It's important to be writing what you are passionate about though. No sense picking a topic that is going to be hard to write about. Especially since it takes daily or almost daily posts in the beginning to get things going.

I also recommend Squidoo. It's a great way to get free traffic. Doesnt cost anything either. Just be sure to have good content and at least 4 modules.

How about giving away viral e-books? As long as they contain good content and has a high perceived value, they'll get passed around and your sites will get traffic.

Yes, classifieds is always a good way to gather traffic. Especially if you have physical products and services.

Do try out ablewise classifieds, click on my signature. You will surely benefit from it.

Lastly, good list we have here.

Here is a list of what's keeping me busy at the moment:

Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories
Blog and Forum Postings - to high PR and frequently crawled sites
Social Bookmarking
Classified Ads
Article Marketing - submitting to high PR directories
Link Exchange - with relevant and authority sites
Link Baits - for organic linking
Etc. etc.

Wish I could really do more ;) Hired some freelancers to do some of these and hoping to see more traffic to our sites...

For article marketing you might try Scribd.com You can upload documents in text or doc format and allow them to be viewed or downloaded as text or pdf. Scribd will give you stats on how many times your docs have been viewed and the keywords people used to find your document. It has a PR6 and has a great Alexa ranking placing it as one of the top 1000 websites.

I think article marketing is the best way to get good conversion. people like to read before buying things. if you can write better article and knows how to play the reader's emotion you could find it easy to make money. but to get to that level a lot of experience and skill is needed.

I've had some luck with stumbleupon (another web 2.0 site).

There's a site called stumbleplug dot com where you can view and thumbs up the existing listed sites, then submit your own. If everyone uses it like it was intended, it can drive traffic from stumble. An interesting concept.

Other than that, I'm having success by reviewing my current traffic logs (using Google Analytics) to see how visitors arrived at my site, then generating useful, original content around keywords that delivered visitors to the site. In that regard, content feeds itself.

Hope that makes sense.

Great discussion!

I have found that an effective method of getting geo-targeted traffic to a website is through offline promotion.

I have promoted local affiliate program links with a snipped URL on flyers. The flyers are very small, just strips of paper really. But they are inexpensive to produce and the quality of the traffic is good. I get a higher percentage of signups than any other method.

Obviously this is not for everyone. The response is painfully slow, as you can imagine. But it is still profitable. And I would definitely recommend it for people who have a bricks and mortar business and who want local people viewing their website.

facebook is a good strong backlink too. On your facebook page just put a link on there and you will be surprised of the number of backlinks that you get from it. Ask your friends to check it out too. I guess the key here is diversifying so as to reach more of your target market. Some ways are better for several niche and others might produce less results. That is why it is always important to keep all your marketing efforts targeted and geared towards making conversions as well ;)

Getting traffic is really an easy task, if we perform some tactics. But the selection of tactics has to be done very carefully.:)

Fabian.JH
July 19th, 2008, 01:32 AM
Here is how I reap the traffic and profits from article marketing:

Step 1 - Write/Outsource 100 Articles

Write or outsource 100 keyword-optimized articles to submit to the directories. The reason why you want 100 articles and not 20 articles or 10 articles is because you want a volume of quality articles out there grabbing traffic for you.

Step 2 - Submit Articles To Top-Tier Article Directories

You only need to submit your articles to the top-tier directories to flood your website with traffic! Create a list of the top 5 sites and submit your articles to these sites.

Step 3 - Send Traffic To An Opt-In Page

You can send your article traffic to a sales page or a blog, but the best kind of website to send your visitors to is an opt-in page where you build your list from. With a list, you can 'recycle' the traffic you get by sending follow-ups to your subscribers.

Step 4 - Repeat The Process

Write or outsource more articles every month to increase your traffic. Imagine if you get 1000 visitors per month from 100 articles (a conservative number). Add another 100 articles in the following month and you will have 200 articles, which should give you around 2000 visitors. After 10 months, you can easily have up to 10000 visitors per month coming to your site.
