View Full Version : I've Been Burned by Google AdWords

Hello everyone!

I must confess: Being the newbie that I am, I made the mistake that I'm sure has been made by others before me. And that is that I went trigger happy with my Google AdWords campaigns. I maxed out my credit card on Google AdWords and have not made a net profit whatsoever. For every $5 I spent on AdWords I only earned $1 through my Clickbank affiliate sales.

This was a very expensive learning opportunity.

But I am determined to do whatever it takes to succeed at Affiliate Marketing and reach my stated financial goals.

I guess now I have no choice but to turn to FREE methods of advertising.... But I think I will need some hand-holding from those who have blazed the trail and become very successful using free marketing techniques.

Could someone please explain how does article marketing work? Is it free? Is it a solid means of generating clicks to your website?

Thanks in advance and I really appreciate all of your help.

Sorry that your PPC campaign didn't go as you had hoped. PPC marketing isn't as easy as one would think.

Anyway, I'm not an expert and I can't hold your hand, but article marketing works if done correctly. The way it works is that you write quality articles, usually 400-500 words or more, depending on the submission site, and you publish your article to the submission site. And in so doing, you promote your other websites, blogs, squids, etc. Ideally you would write about topics that relate to the products you are trying to promote, so for example if you have a collectibles website you would write about the background, history, manufacturing techniques, fan clubs, etc regarding the collectibles. Simple, huh?

There are a few article site links on my affiliate resource site and I invite you to use those. I think one of the links isn't working and I'm going to fix that sometime this week. I'm currently in the midst of developing another site.

Let me know how it goes, okay :)

Hyderkhan, I owe you an apology. Your first post on this thread looked very much like someone using the shill technique to promote a product but I can see from your posts since then that you are actually genuine and are contributing positively to the forum.

Got it wrong this time, sorry..

I hope you continue to post here and share some of your article marketing knowledge with us.

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to share with you my success story and I thought it would be fitting to post it as a reply to this thread... On August 13th I wrote that I've been burned by Google AdWords, having burned through a boat load of capital with a huge loss....

Today August 25th, I just got my FIRST EVER sale using the Bum Marketing Method! Wow! I just made a sale using 100% FREE advertising!

And using some of the tips and advice I've been picking up on this forum regarding SEO, I was able to bump up an existing article from being "no where to be found" in Google's organic search results, to being ranked #1, #2, and #4 respectively for my "long tail keywords".

So yes, everybody out there who may be skeptical or who may be feeling discouraged, I just wanted to let you all know that this method REALLY works! Yes, article marketing may be slow and painful and requires some discipline and some effort, as opposed to PPC through which you can get instant gratification, but you can't beat the ROI this way! I'm pretty sure that article marketing success builds up asymtopically overtime the more time and effort you put in now, the more it will pay off and the less effort will be required later.

Thank you to everyone on this board and especially thank you to Travis. eWealth rocks!

I wouldn't give up on Adwords. You absolutely need to do what you feel like you should do. But, Adwords can be very rewarding. It does take a lot of work, though. Everyone loses $ before they get ahead. That's why you should branch off into other things..but if you give up too soon you may regret it. It is a fact that many people have made adwords work...and they are doing very well.

I think it's a good idea to branch off into some free markeing, etc, but have Google campaigns. Tweak them (if they are proffitable)until they work and never spend more than $40 on a new campaign if it's not working. But, this is up to you.

Never spend more than $40 a new campaign if it's not working? Hmm. I wish somebody had given me that advice before I exceeded that more than tenfold!

Hey I just wanted to share with everyone that I just did my SECOND sale through article marketing today! So that's two sales in 7 days using free advertising! Not bad for a newbie.

Many thanks to ALL OF YOU with whom I've had the opportunity to draw inspiration from. Perhaps my post here will provide inspiration to others.

I know that 2 sales in 7 days isn't going to pay the bills. But it's a sign that the learning curve can be overcome with persistence and a serious drive to succeed.

Thanks for the update and congratulations on the sales. Although it's not earth-shattering, it's a good start. I'm not sure how many articles you've written but you already know that if you multiply your efforts you can make more sales, so get busy :)

HyderKhan, are you relying 100% on organically selling your product via your article?

If so, create some more info and point to your article via these web pages (either your own or via other free sources) as an authority article . . . or look carefully at your article keywords and visitor stats (if possible) and see if you can set up a PROFITABLE ppc campaign this time, by again pointing people to your article.

Good luck

And whats going on now Hyder?

I am very happy to see your progress because of your genuine thoughts. I would like to give a suggestion Adwords that, they do work beneficial only when you go through the guidelines and the policies they follow. If you are much busy in finding out them, the next chance would be hiring an expert on that. This is for sure to get the maximum ROI. Anyhow wish you all the best.

I think if you have a unique niche then Google Adwords can work for you. Otherwise it has had it's day as too many people are trying the same thing.

Before i learnt about long tail keywords and niches, i spent about $2K on google adwords, and made no sales.

my keywords were very general, 1 to 2 words, a complete no no.

like the saying goes, "You learn from your mistakes"

depending on the campaign, i will use google adwords, or just article marketing.
