I just started a new online business and am trying to generate traffic to my website. What are some of the smart and cheap ways to do this. The site is:

http://www.eyesurvivecallingcards.com/

The products work great and maintaining the site is a piece of cake. I am just having a hard time getting people to visit the site and most important purchase. Any great tips will be appreciated thanks.

1) Aticle marketing (ezinearticles, goarticles, searchwarp.com (without www))
2) Seo (you'll have to wait months to see some worthfull resulst)
3) Digg, stumbleupon, myspace, furl
4) usfreeads.com
5) Pay per click advertising.
6) viral marketing.

Of course there are much more ways to promote your website.
I'm sure other members will give you some tips as well. :d

The key to a successful online marketing campaign is email advertising. And these
emails should all be aimed at generating targeted mailing lists. The more lists you
have, and the more diversity among your lists, the greater your marketing potential.
The best way to use safelists is not to actually sell your product or goods, but to
generate leads. Include a link to your website in your safelist ad, and be sure the ad is
enticing enough to make the recipient want to click on your link.
Your link should lead to an opt-in form on your website, which is then linked to an auto
responder. The autoresponder should be set up to generate more information about
your product or services that you are attempting to sell.
Make sure the information supplied by the auto responder focuses on the benefits of
your product or service. Figure out what problems your product solves, and use that
information as your selling handle. The goal is to get your leads to join your opt-in
mailing list.
To make the prospect even more enticing, consider offering a free bonus if they join
your opt-in mailing list. Your bonus could be a number of different things, including a
link to download a free ebook, an article, report, free ebook library, free ezine, free
ecourse, etc.
Once you get people to join your mailing list, your goal is to repeatedly contact them
with more and more information about your product or your series of products.
Eventually, they will either make a purchase or opt out of the auto responder.
Since the majority of people who read safelist emails do not have a lot of time, the
shorter and more targeted the ad, the more effective it will be. Remember, the ad
should be directed to making the recipient curious enough to click on your URL link
with the intention of getting them to opt-in to your mailing list.
Once they opt-in to your mailing list, you want to keep giving them incentives to stay
with you. More bonus offers and the promise of more information about products

Article marketing is cheap but time consuming. Once you get a few sales under you belt and get a feel for what type of articles drive the most/best converting then outsource the content writing.

Use what you've learned to guide the "ghost" writer.

Using blogs are effectvie too. If you don't want to write all the content yourself again outsource. I've used google alerts and article databases like
submit your article to get content related to my own. I use the blog to drive traffic to my main money site

Here is a link to get articles automaticly

I totally agree about having a mailing list. Not sure that safelists are the best way to get people to opt in though. With so many spam filters in place many emails arent even received, and if they are many more arent opened.

It definitely is important to have that lead capture page and a free offer as suggested. Something like that is more likely to get the person to leave their email address. Then let the autoresponder do the work. Most people dont sign up right away, some take weeks or even months.

As far as "fast" traffic (for those without a "list")...

PPC (of course)
Squidoo is a good one
Articles are great (goarticles and serachwarp approve faster than ezinearticles for those just starting out)
Forums
Blogs
Some people have liked Yahoo Answers
A good "sig line" in your email program is free advertising each time you send out an email.
Digg is good as are some of the other social bookmarking sites
I've seen YouTube used, too.

It's all about exposure.

I've received visitors using traffic exchanges, but not the targeted traffic I'd like to see.

Most are just clicking for credits and really not concerned with the content of your site or program. Unless of course your site or program is unique.

Article writing, while it takes some some time, produces results that can last for years.

Good Luck!

I use article writing as a method to generate traffic to my site as well as a means to get listed in Google in a matter of weeks. In fact I just launched a new site a little over a month and I started generating sales in about 10 days.

Before you start submitting your articles make sure you have your on page optimization in place i.e. you have done your keyword research (blah blah blah).

If you have any questions as far as getting your page ready I would enjoy taking a look at your site and giving you a few pointers for (FREE). I just love doing this stuff and I love helping others.

Good luck with your site my friend :-)

You need to have an extra email account for safelists.
I know a marketer who regularly uses safelists, you need to know which ones work good. You can find it out by testing. And you have to write good mails, if you can't do that, or promote something that doesn't convert so good, then you probably loose money.

First thing make your website search engine optimized is the best way to get more traffic. And site should have rich in keywords so that it ranks high on a search engine results page. The other way you can do by advertising your web site on the blogs that are close to your products and services. You can write articles about the product and services you offer and add a link to your website and submit them in various article directories (http://www.workathomegoldrush.com).

Here is a good combination :

1. SEO - through targeted linkbuilding
2. Paid advertisments - PPC, banners or text ads on related niche sites, offline, etc.
3. Good content - nothing better than returning traffic and even direct referrals from your previous visitors :D

Method #1: Pay for Traffic

You can pay for your traffic. The advantage here is many of these methods are fast…and you can roll out in huge numbers. Plus you’re in full control of the results.

If it’s working…expand into more advertising.

If it’s not working, fix it until it is.

1. Run a Google Adwords Campaign
2. Expand into Other PPCs
3. Expand to Banner Advertising
4. Send Out Press Releases
5. Mail Postcards to Rented Lists

Method #2: Generate Free Traffic

Let’s say you don’t want to spend any money, or you don’t have any money. You can still start generating visitors for free.

1. Submit Articles
2. Start a Blog
3. Generate Links
4. Post Viral Videos
5. Set-up An Affiliate Program

Does anyone have a success story. How they started up and how long it took to see results and what worked best to get the results?
It seems that getting traffic is the toughest part of this business. It doesn't matter how great our products are, without getting the needed traffic, we can't make any money. I'm always looking for more information on better ways to reach my target audiences.

The big issue is setting up a strategy that works for your niche. Give yourself 30 to 60 days to begin making sales. If you have a squeeze page with great copy and a great offer, you should be converting 50% of your traffic to non-commited subscribers for your free offer.

If you want SEO traffic, go with a blog, a Squidoo page and PPC ads first. Send your PPC folks to your blog to read and sign up for your free offer. Ylur PPC value will work faster and your blog will get you to the top of the niche list faster than your web page. Your prominent ad on the blog takes the prospect to the squeeze page. They learn about your offer and sign up.

Why PPC to your blog? Google values blogs over websites. They actually reduce your PPC costs for blogs. Build up 500 subscriber list and get to jv ad swapping. Get your free product out there to the JV's with a split on the One Time Offer back end product. They will send the offer out to their entire list for the split in the profits.

You will still need to write articles for SEO, online credibility and traffic.

I got a blog going. traffic is slow for now but its building up slowly.

You should promote your blog across the blog communities - Mybloglog and BlogCatalog, also go download comment kahuna, find good blog site to give comment, use your name (type keyword instead of name) to optimize the keyword to your website.

Post article, do comment, join community everyday, and you will see the traffic starting to go up!

Have you tried Myspace? I have been using it for some time now and I have been getting some good results. Best of all it is FREE!! The thing to remember when putting your site together is not to promote your product or service but rather focus on building a relationship with your potential customers and branding yourself. Your selling yourself, not your product or service. Many people get this wrong and pass up many potential customers. Focus on relationship building and you will then see your traffic increase daily. Good Luck.

Some of the techniques you can use for promoting your site are:
-Viral marketing ( Send an email to a list of your friends and acquaintances with info about your service. They will then forward it to their friends and in this way, more and more people will come to know about your product)
- emailers: Design some nice emailers for your site and send it to all the people you know in your area. You can also fetch data from various agencies depending upon demographic, geographic or age details.
- Ebanners
- Affiliate Marketing
- As you are in the telecom business, try some tie ups with business in the same stream or like some phone company. Basically products which can complement your service. It will increase traffic to your website.

These are some of the ideas which came to my mind. Hope it can be useful for you.

To generate traffic for your site, try the resources which are not very expensive but give good results.
Start writing about your site with a link for it at various blogs or forums platform.
You can try tieing up with local market businesses which in some form compliment your business idea/your website
Publish articles talking about your service, try to place link of your website at every other pplace where your competitors have placed one.

Traffic generation increases the popularity of page as well as it’s a way by which a site can earn money also. Here are some of the ways by which new sites get more traffic-
1. SEO
2. Article marketing
3. Link exchange
Content provided in site about the product/services should be informative and page must also be attractive. It also helps in generating traffic to a new website.

Traffic is a crazy thing. No matter what else you do well online, if you do not have traffic, real people looking at your web pages, you aren’t going to do any business. So traffic is critical to online success. I have, however, found 3 types of traffic that consistently pull really well for me in terms of subscribers and purchasers.
1)Article writing and submission-I simply write articles on topics that will interest buyers on my web site, add a link to my web site or squeeze page, and send those articles to the various online article directories that will promote my articles for free.
2)Email Swapping-Basically what this involves is swapping an emailing with another marketer. Basically I email my list an offer for him and he does the same for me. Be sure and track your responses to this, as some people you swap with will produce more traffic than others, so you want to know for future who is a candidate for a second mailing.
3)Ezine advertising-Although this requires research, and testing and tracking, and sometimes a lot of trial and error, this can be a great form of traffic building. One thing that is nice about ezine readers is that they are generally responsive subscribers.

Generating targeted website traffic is one of the most important actions people have to take to become successful online. No traffic means no results, whether sales, leads, subscribers or whatever it is that they are trying to achieve. May these tips help you out-
1. Write something great about your niche and email other bloggers to let them know
2. Have a signature link in forums that point to your site
3. Post links to your pages to social bookmarking sites.
4. Leave comments on other people’s blogs and link back to your site (tip: look in the digg upcoming section for blog posts about to get a lot of traffic).
5. Have the opposite opinion on everyone else on a popular topic, providing you can justify it.

Ok here is what i would do to promote a brand new site. I'm sure other members have mentioned the same types of things but maybe not.

1. Articles
2. Digg
3. Social Networks
4. Blogs
5. Email Advertising
6. Offline Advertising (Postcards, Newspapers, Magazines, Drop Cards, Flyers)
7. Videos
8. Pay Per Click
9. Email Advertising
10. Press Releases

I would start with all of the free sources first to see the kind of response you will get and as your doing that your setting yourself up for long term consistent free targeted traffic. Then move your way into the paid methods to really explode your exposure to your site. Hope this helps

Know your market target !
Knowing your market target helps you on an easy ride to getting traffic. it is like going to a fashion house in search of a breveage, what do you think of that ? if you can locate your market then getting there would be a piece of cake. use alexa to check out there stats. get more involved in writting threads in forums adding your email signature to it. also do more on writing articles really helps. There are different web communities and these web communities are saturated by the Americans, canadians and more also the europeans though they are a bit few cause but they are more dominated by the british. my point is that you can a tree can't make a forest but a forest is made up of trees. try and link up with other webmasters that are relevant to your field and they would link up to you.

I've been reading that directories are becoming less and less important now, because Google is becoming more selective in which ones it deems as being high enough quality for indexing. Has anyone else come across this information?

I personally notice that traffic directly correlates to my forum and blog posting, as well as generating new content.

Thanks for asking your question,

You Basically have 3 main methods:

You can - 1) Buy Traffic
2) Borrow ,,
3) Generate ,,

Buying could be for example (low cost) Solo Ads, or Banner ads
for what Borrowing is concerned you could 'Co-registrate' but usually isn't cheap.

This last one does cost you time but might be an interesting for example something like Article Marketing, or making (Screencast) Video's for Video directories and things like that.

Search engines rank sites based on quality of content and quality of backlinks. The content quality is a give in. Make sure you are creating content that is worth reading. The search engines have many ways of identifying the quality of the content. In addition you must get backlinks to your site in order to gain reputability with the search engines. Quality backlinks come from other websites or articles on other websites creating hyperlinks references to your material.

Blogs are another great thing to consider if you want to know how to generate traffic to my website. You have to be an active blogger and an active member of a blogging community in order to get other blogs to link up to yours and visit your web page. This is dual purpose. It makes your blogging buddies take a look at your site and it creates quality backlinks.

3
Social networking is another way to generate traffic to my website. If you become a part of a social community you can get a lot of traffic from your friends on the sites. If you simply wish to submit your material and forget about it, this will only drive a small amount of traffic to your site, but it will create backlinks. These are not quality backlinks, but they are from a different source so it does show the search engines that your site is diversified which can help also.

Directories can be a great resource. They are tedious to submit to and again do not provide quality links. Many people will search through directories to find information which will in turn get your traffic and diversified backlinks. If you want to try directories, but don't want to spend the time doing all the tedious work, consider hiring someone to submit them to the directories for you. It can be well worth the money.
