I need some help getting my website to rank on google. What do they expect? Does page rank matter anymore? Does anyone know if using PPC correlates to not ranking well? Thanks for any tips.

I guess it does matter in way because when certain keywords are searched then your page will get viewed more if it is higher. Also with ppc it helps your google ranking and is a good system to use

PR is very important to compete with other sites for the same search term.
One has said "Backlink is King" because of that - as replacement for the old term "Content is king".

PPC should help google ranking? Why that??

I agree linking is the way forward. Page rank and getting google to like your site is important as they can give you more traffic than anyone else.

Read my post here:

I have never heard of PPC helping your organic
search listings.

Now that does not mean that it does not help,
it just means I have never heard of it helping.

I guess ppc will drive some traffic to your site, the best way to increase your page ranking though is through directory submissions and article submissions.

I noticed an increase in my page rank and traffic when I started doing these.

The best way is making your website so good, or viral, that sites with high PR want deliberately link to you. :)

www.directorysubmitter.com (not an affiliate link) - is the best program on earth. I swear by this program for submitting your website to directories and increasing page rank. :weird: :) http://www.thesexyguru.com/pic2/2976/496008.jpg :)

I've been hearing that backlinks are the way to go for getting PR. If this is true, how does one actually do this?

Just read my post above. The next best thing is ask other webmasters from sites with high PR that are related to your site for link exchange, submit your site to directories, post comments in forums, blogs, submit articles to article directories...

Try doing a search of the SEO part of this forum, there's a ton of useful info in previous threads.

PR is still very important. And, you can greatly help it improve by getting QUALITY link building services (http://www.seobuilders.com).

To be honest I think PR is a bit over rated. It's only a small factor in a big calculation.

I have found that on-site optimisation cooupled with a mild link campaign, say 6 links inbound can take a PR3 site above PR5 and PR6 sites that don't have any optimisation.

Indeed it's possible to jump above most of these without too much expenditure and a bit of thought and a bit of work. I have a few sites with no'1 slots on Google and they're not big national corporations, mostly small businesses.

Yes, but it depends on how competitive the phrases are. When they are competetive, then the other sites will be optimized too and you WILL need a high pagerank.
